Travis Nixon
Educational Director and Instructor

Travis is a 6th generation builder and the successful owner of a San Diego based construction company since 2003. A natural teacher, In 2018 he began guiding young people through his development of the Sustainable Building program at TLC charter School San Diego where students design and build a tiny home using hands on learning over two semesters. “I began to see the inner transformation building can offer to peoples spirit and knew a program like this was needed” he says.

He has designed and built every single home he has lived in, including houses in Alaska, California, and New Mexico- with numerous tiny home projects along the way. Travis fills his few non-working hours with jiu jitsu, guitar playing, and boring history podcasts.

Stacy Nixon
Director of Operations and Student Relations

Stacy is a professional artist and 5th generation native Californian. As founder and director of The Arts Retreat Center of New Mexico she is familiar with the great personal leaps men and women can make given a period of time and the goal of creative independence. After watching the unchecked growth of southern California, the high cost of living, and the shrinking housing options she decided there must be a better way to live. “Self reliance is not a characteristic isolated to life 200 years ago, it is more relevant than ever.”

When she is not painting or overseeing artists and students you can find her planning crazy trips, getting overly excited about antiques, and engaging in deep conversations with her terrier.
